How do you spell A GIRL SCOUT?

One word, that could be spell as M – O – D – E – S – T, MODEST. Yes, for me a girl scout is modest.

Choosing to be modest is a very empowering thing. It is a sign that a person is confident and secure. While some women rely on low necklines to catch the attention of others, a modest woman depends on inner, lasting qualities to set herself apart from the rest. While immodest women showcase the cheapest versions of themselves first, a modest woman forces the world to see her internal value too. How a woman dresses is a direct reflection of her values. A modest woman shows that she respects the thought of life of those around her. These simple lines signify the importance of Girl Scouting to my fellow scouts and to me.

Girl power is very dominant these days and I consider myself having a part of it. Women are modest, industrious, and wise. They do not give up. They remain strong despite of the problems they are facing. It is like saying, if a woman wanted to avoid falling off a cliff, she would not attempt cartwheels along the edge, would she? She would not walk right up to the side of the rock and do a little dance, either. She would not dangle one foot off the over hang. Instead, if a wise woman wanted to avoid falling off a cliff, she would find ways to keep herself away from the ledge. She would maintain a safe distance from the danger of the rock, no matter how much she wanted to experience its thrills. She might even put up a fence between herself and the overhang. That way she could do all the cartwheels she wanted without any risk of falling.

At first when I was in Preparatory School, I never knew what Girl Scouting was all about. I thought it was a boring organization like the others but I realized it was spectacular. I did not know who force me to join or why I join, it just happened one day that I am already a member of it. I believe that God had led me to the right path because Girl Scouting has done many great things to me.
The world of girl scouting offers a wonderful array of opportunities for fun and learning. The goal of this organization is to help girls and young women realize the ideals of womanhood and prepare themselves for their responsibilities in the home, the nation and the world community. I admit that because of this organization I volunteered to join, I have changed since then. It had made me a better person. Serving others and respecting people is the most important thing I learned from the staff and my troop leader, Ms. Ma. Victoria C. Serra in GSP. It feels so great to do a good turn daily to others. A good turn is the secret service done by a Girl Scout without any thought of return.

Girl scouting serves as the factor, which developed my character as a person. Because of Girl Scout, I have learned many important things like the Eight-Point Challenge where you earn badges to those activities that interest you. Another thing is the Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme. It highlights the Girl Scouts role in nation building as exemplified by the Chief Girl Scout and her distinguished leadership and vital contribution to nation building. The Scheme is built on the concept of the total development of the girl: spiritual, mental, physical, social and emotional. According to the senior handbook, it is an incentive that Senior Girl Scouts and Cadets can aspire for as they become actively involved in community and nation building. The main emphasis is on the girl’s leadership, perseverance and her sense of responsibility towards herself and the community.

Girl scouting is a worthwhile activity to me. Attending camping had made me a very independent and strong person. Wearing the green dress with all those pins pinned in it makes me really proud of being a Girl Scout.
